The Journey Begins

Hi all!

Welcome to my first blog.

I never thought that I would pick up a hobby that incorporates so much writing, but here I am!  I majored in Biology to avoid a potential hobby like this, but I was a lot younger when that decision was made and had nothing of value to blog about.

Since I posed in this picture for a friend’s school article, I am holding water with food coloring. Yum!

I am finished with school and now work as a full time chemist. Four days a week, ten hours a day-it’s glorious! My employers specifically encouraged me to rest my mind during my weekends and NOT take any work home  (which I wasn’t used to when I entered the job because my previous job was nonstop). With all that free time to twiddle my thumbs, I picked up an unexpected hobby.

I started making cake!

My First Time
My first time rolling fondant. I do not recommend a table of this height for rolling out fondant.

My kitchen became my sanctuary. I would scour the internet and raid bookstores for any book that would help me grow my hobby. Eventually I wanted to put more efforts into my cooking as well, and next thing I know I’m meal prepping for coworkers and spending my prime-day money on kitchen gadgets.

My journey has brought me to invest less in recipe books and more into the books explaining the science behind food! This opened up a whole new realm of food. My goal for the past year has been to focus on WHY to include certain ingredients and WHICH substitute ingredients I can use.

If you want to join my learning experience, all are welcome.

Each article I post will be about food, or somehow associated with food, what works for me, what does not work for me in the kitchen, and hopefully I can figure out why my food is the way it is!

Be warned, I get requests for cakes quite often!

Wedding cake!

If you do not have much of a sweet tooth, that is fine, I promise to include food outside of baking!

My goal is to help everyone put out good continuous results with their experiments in the kitchen by learning from my mistakes!
